According to the 5th National Family health survey (NFHS), India's female population outnumbers its male population. The number of women has surpassed the number of men for the first time since the poll began in 1992. That is, there are 1,020 females for every 1,000 males. In the 2015-16 study, there were 991 females for every 1,000 males. The National Family Welfare survey is commonly used to estimate India's population and pace of growth. A total of 6.1 lakh homes in 707 districts across the country were sampled.

This survey, however, will be performed at the district level rather than on a large scale. However, knowing the future circumstances will be a factor. The sex ratio of male births has increased from 919 per thousand to 929 in the last five years, i.e. in 2015-16. At birth, boys are more likely than girls to survive various difficulties, such as illness.

In most states and union territories, the number of women outnumbers the number of men, according to the National Family Welfare Survey-5. women have increased slightly more than men in Union Territories. The number of women has risen overall. The gross fertility rate (DFR) in each state is less than two. As a result, India's population is stabilising, which means that if the general fertility rate is less than 2.1, women will have at least two children in their lives.
