The central government had told the delhi High court that air india was at a loss and the government could not bear any more liabilities.

The government has said it will not allow more public money to be wasted on air India. The Center was hearing a petition filed by rajya sabha MP Subramanian Swamy seeking cancellation of air India's share sale.

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta argued that Thales Pvt Ltd was wholly owned by Tata Sons and had no affiliation with air Asia. He said the sale of the investment was a policy decision and was made in 2017 due to heavy losses.

A bench of Justices DN patel and Jyoti Singh heard the petition. The court set aside the order on the petition and asked the parties to submit documents in this regard.

Subramanian Swamy argued that the auction process was malicious, one-sided and against the public interest. The petitioner described the sale of the investment as a "terrible scam" and demanded an inquiry into the role of the government.
