With the sports drama Liger, in which he portrays a mixed martial arts (MMA) competitor and is paired opposite ananya Panday, vijay deverakonda will make his bollywood debut. On august 25, the puri Jagannadh-directed movie is scheduled for release in theatres.
Since the release of the trailer, speculation has circulated that Liger is a remake of Puri's own 2003 telugu sports drama Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi (Mother, Father, and A tamil Girl), which starred ravi teja and asin in the key roles. In the movie, ravi teja portrays a kickboxer, and since Vijay plays an MMA fighter, analogies have been drawn between the two movies, whose plots also appear to be similar.
Vijay, however, refuted all of these rumours and made it clear that Liger is an entirely original movie at a recent promotional event.
