It has been over six months since Y S jagan Mohan Reddy, the head of the ysr congress party and the chief minister of andhra pradesh, discussed his vision to establish three capitals for the state. The jagan government has not made any attempts to implement the three capitals since the state high court's judgement on march 3 declaring amaravati to be the only capital of andhra pradesh and ruling that the state assembly lacks the authority to draught a law on three capitals.

Jagan underlined his support for decentralising administration during a debate on the high court's remarks in the assembly that same month, but he avoided bringing it up again afterwards. There was no attempt to petition the supreme court or reintroduce the three capitals law. Even governor Biswabhushan Harichandan did not mention the three capitals or decentralised government in his Republic Day speech or the joint address of the state assembly and council.

But on Monday, during his Independence Day speech, jagan implicitly made a reference to the three state capitals. He stated that decentralised administration at the capital level was his government's policy. "Decentralization of capital is the only way to eliminate regional inequalities and meet peoples' expectations. As part of decentralisation, the same idea was used to the expansion of the state's districts, he stated.
