On Wednesday, Y S jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of andhra pradesh and president of the congress PARTY' target='_blank' title='ysr congress-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>ysr congress party, vehemently defended the decision to rename the ntr university of health Sciences as the Dr. ysr university of health Sciences in order to properly honour his late father, Y S Rajasekhar Reddy. It was intended to give credit to ysr, who was a doctor himself and had changed the healthcare system in revolutionary ways. During the motion to pass the measure renaming ntr health university as Dr. ysr health university, jagan stated that this was not meant to be disrespectful to ntr in any way.

He recalled that ysr, in addition to providing 108 and 104 ambulance services, was a pioneer in bringing high-quality medical care to the general public. Eight of the 11 medical colleges in the state were already in operation when the tdp was founded, while the other three were started on Dr. YSR's initiative. "To boost healthcare, our government has added 17 medical colleges since we took office three years ago. This means that ysr and his son's efforts are responsible for 20 of the 28 medical colleges in the State. This merits the health University's rebranding in and of itself, he argued.

Jagan asserted that tdp President N chandrababu naidu had no love lost for ntr despite inciting his party's MLAs to disrupt the assembly and party members to take to the streets with agitations over the matter. "Naidu had taken the party and the position of chief minister from his father-in-law, which caused emotional anguish for the TDP's founder. If ntr had still been alive, he would have resumed his role as chief minister and Naidu would never have dared to think of becoming king, the speaker claimed. The chief minister emphasised that while Naidu had submitted his friends, who had assisted him in backstabbing ntr, for national honours, NTR's name had not been recommended for Bharat Ratna.
