Recent events in andhra pradesh saw an uncommon situation when the legislature reacted negatively to a high court decision that questioned the legislative branch's authority and urged the judiciary to respect the legislature and the government as other constitutional institutions. The Legislative assembly said that it would protect the judiciary's sovereign authority from any infringement by other organs after observing that it had overstepped its bounds on the three capitals issue.

The conflict erupted after the high court determined that the state government lacked the legal authority to move the state's capital and ordered it to keep amaravati as its general capital. The ysr congress Party (YSRCP) government argued that the legislature has the authority to pass laws regarding state capital during a protracted debate in the Assembly. The ruling party, led by chief minister Y. S. jagan Mohan Reddy, made it very clear in the assembly that the legislature is just as supreme and independent as the judicial branch.

The chief minister believed that by asserting that the state legislature lacked the authority or capacity to enact laws regarding the capital issue, the judiciary had overstepped its bounds. A few days after the high court ordered the state government to build and develop the capital city of amaravati and its surrounding area within six months, the assembly began debating the issue. The high court further stated in its judgement on march 3 that the Centre, not the state, has the authority to choose the location of the state capital.

The amaravati farmers, opposition parties, and others petitioned the court to stop the state government's plan to create three state capitals, and the court's decision was the result of such applications. government officials have suggested amaravati as the legislative capital, kurnool as the judicial capital, and Visakhapatnam as the executive capital. The andhra pradesh Decentralization and Inclusive Development of All Regions Act, 2020, and the andhra pradesh capital Region Development Repeal Act, 2020, were the two pieces of legislation that first brought up the idea. The administration withdrew the legislation for more discussion on trifurcation while the high court was hearing the petitions contesting the legislation.
