Tata Group-owned air india has offered to re-hire pilots for five years after their retirement. The airline has taken this initiative with the intention of bringing stability in operations. This information was received through an e-mail issued internally. This step has been taken at a time when the company is in talks to acquire 300 aircraft. air india is contemplating to re-appoint these pilots as commanders.


Tata Group-owned air india has offered to re-hire pilots for five years after their retirement. The airline has taken this initiative with the intention of bringing stability in operations. This information was received through an e-mail issued internally. This step has been taken at a time when the company is in talks to acquire 300 aircraft. air india is contemplating to re-appoint these pilots as commanders. The company has also introduced a Voluntary Retirement Scheme for its employees including crew members and is simultaneously recruiting fresh youth.



Air india Deputy General Manager (Personnel) Vikas Gupta said in an internal mail, “We are pleased to inform that air india will be serving as commander for a period of 5 years or on attaining the age of 65 years. Till date, whichever is earlier, you are being considered for contractual recruitment after retirement. According to the mail, interested pilots have been asked to submit their details with written consent by june 23. A query sent to an air india spokesperson in this regard did not elicit any response.
