Maharashtra: Ceaseless rain over the last 2 days has led to calamitous floods in parts of maharashtra, with more than three districts flooded and two districts facing a flood-like condition. This is the most onerous spell of rain in the state in July for 40 years. The Navy has been roped in for recovery and evacuation.


National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) employees are also stationed for rescue actions in the Konkan region. While Ratnagiri, Raigad, Kolhapur are swamped, Sangli and Amravati are fronting a flood-like situation.

More than 50 per cent area of the coastal town of Chiplun, about 250 km from mumbai and having a community of over 70,000, has got submerged in floodwaters. A terrifying video on social media shows a few people attempting to pull up a lady from a flooded area using a rope is viral. The woman adheres to the cord as she is drawn up, but just as she nears the platform of the building, the rescuers miss hold and she falls into the water.

Mumbai, and other neighboring districts in the Konkan district have been observing heavy downpours for the last few days. The Mumbai-Goa Highway has been closed for commerce due to severe flooding in the region.

Maharashtra's hot sunny warmth is set to come to an angular end at the weekend, with people being warned that heavy showers could cause agitation.

Chief minister of maharashtra uddhav thackeray on thursday held an urgent meeting to take stock of the situation and asked disaster Management departments responsible to stay watchful and start recovering operations promptly.
