BS Yediyurappa, the chief minister of karnataka, has said that he will retire on Monday, 2 years after taking office. Even while members of his own party speculated about his replacement, Yediyurappa has been downplaying his departure for the previous two weeks. On Monday, however, Yediyurappa announced his resignation while speaking at an event honouring two weeks of the BJP-led administration in Karnataka.

“I have made the decision to go to raj bhavan and resigned as Chief Minister. I received a chance after I turned 75, and it was not with grief, but with joy. I have no words to express my gratitude to amit shah, JP Nadda, and prime minister Modi. I owe them a duty of gratitude. I hope they gain power in the state and allow us to work together to achieve this,” he added.

Yediyurappa alluded to his 4th tenure as chief minister, which runs from July 2019 to 2021, as a "agni pareeksha" in a heartfelt parting address. He stated his administration was dealing with a number of issues, including numerous floods and the state's coronavirus epidemic. Yediyurappa talked about how he helped establish the bjp in karnataka while there were only a few leaders in the party.
