In the presence of congress leader rahul Gandhi, cpi leader Kanhaiya Kumar and gujarat mla Jignesh Mevani joined the party on tuesday in Delhi. A day after his 114th birthday, the three leaders visited Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park in New Delhi's ITO to pay their respects to the freedom fighter's statue.

Outside the congress office in New Delhi, posters greeting former JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar have appeared ahead of his projected joining. Kanhaiya, 34, is a fiery former JNU student union president who gained national notoriety for his anti-Modi rants and subsequently tried unsuccessfully to enter electoral politics as a cpi candidate.

CPI bihar state secretary ram naresh Pandey revealed on tuesday that Kanhaiya had removed the air conditioner he had placed in the CPI's state headquarters in patna a few days ago. Mr Pandey explained, "I granted my approval because he erected it at his own expense." Kanhaiya Kumar's mindset is communist and how long he would survive in the congress party is to been seen.

Mr. Mewani is the convener of RDAM and an independent mla from Gujarat's Vadgam seat. In the 2017 gujarat assembly election, the congress party did not run a candidate in the Vadgam constituency against Mr Mewani.
