The punjab Kings (PBKS) did not keep KL rahul in their retention list released on sunday evening by the 2014 runners-up (November 30). mayank agarwal and local youngster Arshdeep Singh were selected from the punjab division. While Rahul's release came as a shock to many, multiple rumors had suggested that the captain-cum-opener was looking forward to joining a new squad.

According to multiple sources, new teams such as lucknow and ahmedabad are willing to employ Rahul. Despite his obvious record as a top-order batsman (reaching the 500-run mark every season in Punjab's shirt since 2018), PBKS had to discharge the flamboyant opening batter amid all of this. There are lots of speculations regarding KL rahul walking out of the punjab franchise without a proper farewell.

Anil Kumble, speaking on Star Sports, confirmed that rahul was still a part of the team's plans, but revealed that he'd have to depart. He stated, "We obviously wanted to keep him, and one of the justifications we chose him as captain two years ago was to do just that. However, he made the decision to participate in the auction. That is something we respect, and we understand his opinion. It's all up to the gamer."
