Nitin Gadkari, the minister of State for Road Transport and Roadways, has stated that tree planting is being done on the roads to compensate for the trees that are being cut down to enlarge the highways. Contractors and volunteer organizations, he stated in a written response to the state legislature, were planting the trees. According to him, 55.10 lakh trees have been planted in 94 projects by march 2021.

A policy has been announced to phase out old polluting automobiles in order to protect the environment. This guideline is based on the cars' appropriateness. This policy will be implemented through regulations enacted under the Motor vehicles Act of 1988 and the Federal Motor Regulations of 1989. In the previous five years, hilly states including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, and West bengal have added 4,358 kilometers to their roads. In the distance, national highways may be seen. It cost Rs 70,733 crore to build.

To dramatically minimise traffic accidents, the Ministry of Highways is using multi-pronged methods. Accidents are being prevented when roads are being built, accident prone regions are being warned of, proper pedestrian facilities are being monitored, accident prevention features in vehicles are being monitored, and the recently enacted Motor Vehicle Amendment Act is being vigorously enforced.
