The Flores sea area in indonesia was affected by an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale. Following the massive quake near Flores Island, indonesia has declared a tsunami warning. According to the GFZ German Research Facility for Geosciences (GFZ), an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 occurred off the northwest coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island on Friday.

A 9.1 magnitude earthquake off the coast of northwest Sumatra on december 26, 2004, generated a tsunami that destroyed about 230,000 people in indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand, and nine other countries. According to the US Geographical Society, a 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of eastern indonesia on tuesday (USGS). On Indonesia's Flores Islands, the quake struck 112 kilometers (69 miles) north of Maumere.


At 10:20 a.m. local time, the earthquake struck at a depth of 18.5 kilometers (11 miles) in the Flores sea, according to the USGS (10:20 p.m. ET). "Hazardous tsunamis are possible for coastlines located within 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) of the earthquake epicenter," the Pacific tsunami Warning Center stated, based on the preliminary seismic statistics.
