1. Early life:
Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 september 1929, her father's name was Deenanath Mangeshkar, and her mother's name was Shevanti Mangeshkar. Born in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Lata was the eldest daughter of the family. Lata's father ran a theater company and produced musical plays. This was Lata's first stage where she started working at the age of 5. Lata sang in more than a thousand films in 36 different languages throughout her career.
2. One-day schooling:
Lata started singing and acting with the plays of her father Deenanath. On the first day of school, she started teaching singing to other children. When the teacher forbade her to do so, she felt very bad and after that, she never went to school.
3. At the age of 13:
Lata was 13 years old when her father Deenanath Mangeshkar passed away. At that time she proceeded to take care of her family she worked very hard to establish herself as a singer in the 40s. Her first song was in Marathi's film Keeti Hasal. This film came in the year 1942 but Lata's song was dropped from the film. In 1945, Lata shifted to mumbai and in 1949, she sang 'Aayega Aane Wala' for the film Mahal and this song proved to be a big hit.
4. music career:
Lata started her music career at the age of 13 in 1942, her first hindi song was 'Mata Ek Sapoot Ki Duniya Badal De Tu'. This song appeared in the Marathi film Gajaabhaau (1943). Another interesting trivia related to her music career is that she sang songs from R D Burman's first film 'Chhote Nawab' (1961) and the last film 'Love Story 1942' (1994).
5. Awards and Honors:
Lata Mangeshkar has been awarded the Best Female Playback singer and she has received National Film Awards, BFJA Awards, and Filmfare Awards.
