The SIT has arrested Mukhtar baba in the violence that took place after friday prayers in kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on june 3, 2022. He is the owner of baba Biryani restaurant in Kanpur. It is being told that he used to fund Jauhar Fans Association, the main accused of kanpur violence, Hayat Zafar Hashmi.

According to the report, builder Mohammad Basi and Mukhtar baba were on the radar of SIT and kanpur police since the violence. Their names had come up in the interrogation of the arrested accused in connection with the violence. Now Mukhtar baba has been arrested in this sequence. They were on the run. News18 quoted Joint police Commissioner anand Prakash Tiwari as confirming his arrest. He said, “Many names have come up. They are being interrogated. Mukhtar Baba's name had cropped up in crowd funding. He is being taken into custody and interrogated."

Significantly, baba Biryani was also accused of feeding biryani to stone pelters involved in the violence of june 3. However, Mukhtar's son Mahmood had denied these allegations in a conversation with OpIndia. But some local leaders claimed that baba Biryani and his accomplices had been plotting violence for a long time to maintain their illegal occupation. Actually, the place where baba Biryani is standing is also said to be the land of the temple.

Recently, some reports had told that the place which is recorded in the government records as Ram-Janki temple, is currently running baba Biryani restaurant. This came to the fore during the search for enemy properties. According to reports, the building number 99/14A of doctor Beri Chauraha located at Bekonganj in kanpur belongs to the Ram-Janki Mandir Trust in the records. There was a temple of Lord Shri ram here. Puja used to take place here till the eighties. But now only some part of the temple remains. He too is in a dilapidated condition. The other parts of the temple are being demolished and used as the kitchen of the restaurant. Reportedly, Mukhtar once used to do cycle repair work in a part of the Ram-Janki temple.
