From July 1, there will be a complete ban on manufacturing, selling, storing, and exporting these items. The ban is being imposed so that the pollution caused by single-use plastic waste can be reduced. Single-use plastic i.e. such things made of plastic, which we can use only once or throw it away.

Environment Ministry officials told the news agency that 19 items made of single-use plastic have been banned under the Environment Protection Act.


If anyone uses these items now, He may be punished with a fine or imprisonment or both under section 15 of this Act. Section 15 provides for imprisonment of up to 7 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh. Single-use plastic is extremely dangerous for the environment. Such plastics neither decompose nor can they be burnt.


Their fragments release toxic chemicals into the environment, which are dangerous for humans and animals. In addition, single-use plastic waste prevents rainwater from entering the ground, thereby reducing the groundwater level.

According to the United Nations, one million plastic bottles are bought every minute around the world.

More than half of all plastic products are made for single use. Due to this plastic waste is getting accumulated on the earth. 

The United Nations estimates that 400 million tonnes of plastic waste are generated every year.



According to the United Nations, about 200 million tonnes of plastic waste have gone into the oceans so far. The rest of the waste gets mixed in the rivers and streams or remains lying. Now 19 items made of single-use plastic have been banned. On march 28 this year, the government had told the lok sabha that from december 31, 2022, plastic carry bags with a thickness of fewer than 120 microns would be banned.
