The most recent of them is DC League of Super-Pets, which marks Warner Bros.' diversification of their big-screen DC Comics products in recent years. The Justice League is no longer the main subject of the animated superhero action comedy, which instead focuses on a new gang of superheroes made up of the Man of Steel's loyal dog and several animals from a shelter. Since Otto Binder and Curt Swan first introduced Krypto the Superdog in comic books in 1955, the character has had a lengthy run in the medium. Krypto, like Superman, gains abilities from the sun of Earth and works with his Kryptonian comrade to battle crime.

DC League of Super-Pets is fundamentally intended to be a touching tale about a dog discovering what it means to be a good buddy. That lesson is conveyed in the storyline, which was co-written by The LEGO Batman movie and The LEGO Ninjago movie writers john Whittington and director Jared Stern, but everything else feels considerably weaker. Particularly, the supporting characters of PB, Chip, and Merton are drastically underdeveloped in comparison to Krypto and Ace, as well as Lulu, restricting them to a single personality feature that either advances the plot or adds humor.

Instead Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart star in the majority of DC League of Super-Pets, but they are animated dogs this time, therefore they are unable to perform any of their typical physical comedic routines. Even so, there is a lot of their amicable sparring, which can work for viewers who like both performers, but Johnson and Hart just don't have the same humorous chemistry in animation, which makes the relationship between Krypto and Ace seem flat. Unsurprisingly, Kate McKinnon is the most compelling member of the voice cast because she is visibly enjoying playing all of Lulu's nasty traits. Similar to how natasha Lyonne's entertaining performance enhances Merton's humor.

In the end, DC League of Super-Pets might be a passable diversion for families seeking respite from the summer heat, but it might not keep kids occupied for the entirety of its hour and 46 minutes. There isn't anything here to entice viewers other than young families. Although Johnson and Hart have shown to be a formidable movie team in the past, the storylines of Krypto and Ace are difficult to become immersed in without their signature on-screen charisma. DC League of Super-Pets doesn't offer much, despite the supporting cast's abundance of gifted performers and the stars' star power. DC League of Super-Pets can be entertaining, but it's not essential to watch.
