The telangana state government's objections to the famous polavaram Project's backwaters have been dismissed by the Union government. On Thursday, the representatives of the four states of andhra pradesh, telangana, odisha, and chhattisgarh met virtually with the central government. R K Gupta, the chairman of the polavaram project Authority, and the senior Jal shakti Ministry officials were virtually present.

According to the central government, the project's backwaters do not pose a threat to Bhradrachalam as the telangana state had anticipated. The Center informed the telangana officials that there had previously been two surveys done on the threat posed by backwaters to the states of telangana, odisha, and Chhattisgarh. The andhra pradesh officials informed the gathering that they had built a spillway to hold up to 50 lakh cubic seconds of floodwater, which would prevent bhadrachalam or any other area of telangana state from being submerged.

The backwater problems in the states of telangana, chhattisgarh, and odisha were the subject of surveys by the central government in 2009 and 2011. The survey reports contained certain recommendations, on the basis of which the final project designs were approved, the Center informed the states. andhra pradesh promised that it would follow the Central government's guidelines for the project and would not veer from them.
