Melissa Barrera has been pulled from Spyglass Media's Scream VII due to a series of social media postings she published on the Israel-Hamas conflict. According to Entertainment Weekly, she was dismissed as a result of her postings in which she showed sympathy for the Palestinian cause. She also questioned Israel's response to the Hamas strike. Last month, Melissa called for a cease-fire in Gaza. She recently called palestine a "colonised country" and said that Israeli soldiers were committing "genocide and ethnic cleansing."

“Gaza is currently being treated like a concentration camp,” she wrote in one post on instagram stories. “Cornering everyone together, with no where to go, no electricity no water … people have learnt nothing from our histories. And just like our histories, people are still silently watching it all happen. THIS IS GENOCIDE & ETHNIC CLEANSING.”

Scream VII director Christopher Landon addressed Melissa’s firing on X.In a post that now appears not to exist, he wrote, “This is my statement. Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make."

Many hollywood celebrities have spoken out on the Israel-Hamas conflict. According to Entertainment Weekly, Susan Sarandon was recently terminated by her talent agency, UTA, following statements she made at a pro-Palestinian demonstration in New York.

Melissa portrayed sam Carpenter, the older brother of Jenna Ortega's tara Carpenter in Scream 2022 and Scream VI this year. She rose to prominence as one of the franchise's key characters. Notably, Scream VI grossed $108 million in the united states and $60 million in overseas markets.
