On the grounds of a petition alleging that the priest promoted emotions of enmity amongst various groups on the account of religion, the Kuravilangad police in kerala have filed suit towards Pala Bishop Mar Joseph Kallarangatt for his notorious 'narcotic jihad' comment. The police were ordered by a magistrate court to file a complaint against the bishop. The All india Imam Council lodged a petition in response to the bishop's statement. Abdul Aziz Maulavi, the kottayam district president of the council, submitted the plea seeking to launch a case against the Bishop.

The bishop has been charged with encouraging discord, animosity, or emotions of hatred amongst various groups on the basis of religion, race, or uttering discriminatory remarks under relevant provisions of the indian Penal Code.
