Dr Randeep Guleria, director of the All india Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), has predicted that india would see the third wave of COVID-19 around September-October. The eminent pulmonologist had some good news to share, predicting that the next wave of coronavirus would be less severe than the previous one, citing the indian Council of Medical Research's 4th national Covid Sero survey, which found that two-thirds of the country's population aged six and up have SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, as well as a large-scale vaccination campaign.

Dr. Guleria told CNN-News18 exclusively that with states gradually relaxing lockdown-like restrictions and individuals not following the COVID-19 procedures as they should, a third wave is most likely to hit the country in September-October.

Dr. Guleria, the director of AIIMS, believes that children would not be the ones most impacted or have a serious illness in the next wave. According to the most recent serosurvey, children got the illness during the first and second COVID waves.

The indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) has predicted that the third wave will strike india by the end of august but has cautioned that this is not a certain conclusion. According to the ICMR's most recent Sero survey, two-thirds of India's general population carried SARS-CoV-2 antibodies.
