In the All india Quota for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental degrees, the federal government has declared a 27 percent reservation for OBC students and a 10% reservation for EWS candidates. On July 26, prime minister Narendra Modi convened a conference and urged the involved ministries to work together to find a lasting solution to this long-standing problem. A total of 5,550 kids will benefit from the programme.

Every year, roughly 1500 OBC students in MBBS and 2500 OBC students in postgraduation will benefit from the ruling on medical education reservation. According to the Department of Health, there are around 550 EWS students in the MBBS category and approximately 1000 EWS in the MBBS category.

The supreme court directed the introduction of the All india Quota (AIQ) Scheme in 1986 to give domicile-free merit-based possibilities to students from any state who desire to study at a good medical institution in another state. Up until 2007, there were no reservations in the AIQ Scheme. The supreme court established a 15% reserve for SCs and a 7.5 percent reservation for STs under the AIQ system in 2007. In government medical institutions, the AIQ represents 15% of the total available UG seats and 50% of total available PG seats.

In the AIQ Scheme, the Union government has made a historic decision to give OBCs a 27 percent reservation and a 10% reserve. OBC students from across the country will now be allowed to vie for seats in any state thanks to this reservation under the AIQ programme. They would be able to apply for positions in all indian medical and dentistry institutions as a result of this.

In order to offer benefits to students from the EWS category in admission to higher educational institutions, the Constitution was amended in 2019 to allow for a 10% reserve for EWS students. Seats at medical and dental institutions were raised over two years, in 2019-20 and 2020-21, to accommodate the additional 10% EWS reservation while keeping the overall number of seats available for the unreserved category the same. This benefit had not yet been extended to the AIQ seats.

From the current academic year 2021-22, OBCs will receive a 27 percent reservation for EWS in AIQ seats. Every year, around 550 EWS students will benefit from MBBS programmes, and approximately 1000 EWS students will benefit from PG medical programmes. OBCs are eligible to apply for up to 10% of the total number of seats available at the university of Dundee, which is estimated to be in the thousands.

The indian government has declared that from 54,348 seats in 2014 to 84,649 seats in 2020, the number of MBBS seats in the country would grow by 56 percent. This decision is in line with the substantial improvements in medical education that have been underway since 2014. 179 new medical colleges were founded over the same time period, bringing the total number of medical colleges in the nation to 558 (Govt: 289, Pvt: 269).

The action sends yet another important message to Uttar Pradesh's huge OBC voter base. The prime minister raised the number of OBC members on his council to 27 in the most recent rejig, as the bjp desperately tried to maintain the support of the overwhelming OBC vote.
The prime minister has instructed the relevant ministries to settle the OBC reservation problem under the AIQ as soon as possible. All-India quotas apply to 15% of undergraduate seats and 50% of postgraduate seats at state-run medical institutions. There are no reservations for OBCs, unlike Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who enjoy reservations in this quota for admission.
