Elon Musk reportedly requested to be named CEO of software behemoth apple, according to bombshell accusations in a new book, leading Tim Cook, the actual CEO, to hang up the phone in anger.

According to the Los Angeles Times' description of Wall Street Journal writer Tim Higgins' book "Power Play: tesla, Elon Musk, and the Bet of the Century," here's what happened during a 2016 conversation.

Cook has a brilliant idea: apple should purchase Tesla.

Musk is intrigued, but there is one stipulation: “I am the CEO.”

Cook says yes. When apple purchased Beats in 2014, the company maintained the company's founders, jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre.

Musk says no. apple, the CEO of Apple.

Cook says, "F— you," and hangs up.

The remark is significant not just for being yet another example of Musk's CEO bombast, but it also contradicts Musk's own explanation of Tesla's relationship with Apple.

In late 2020, Musk said that he had gone out to Cook to explore the idea of selling tesla to apple during the company's "darkest days," while it was trying to get the Model 3 out the door in 2016.

Cook, according to Musk, "refused to take the meeting."

Who is speaking the truth? It's difficult to say. Musk has a history of behaving grandiosely and in ways that defy reality, but demanding that Tim Cook resign would be an absurd act, even by Musk's own lofty standards.
