Working with parents in the early childhood program plan!!!

The child is the first preference in an early childhood program, parents are the second priority! parents are the first teachers and they continue to have the primary responsibility for their child's development. parents and teachers therefore must function together as partners to help the child learn and grow. Working with parents in an early childhood program includes two aspects-parent involvement and parent education.

parent involvement refers to parent participating as volunteers in helping out the ECE teacher with planning and implementing the program. Parent education refers to providing parents with specific skills and knowledge which would empower them to be more successful or effective as parents. The two components are separate, but they do complement each other.

Parent-teacher contact can be maintained through incidental meetings, home visits at least once in a term, and a newsletter. The foremost important part of an early childhood program is parents need to be informed regularly about their child's progress. In the process of participating, parents get educated also in the philosophy and practice of early childhood education. Most of all every parent is concerned about their child's development and its progress, so as ECE teachers they should act accordingly.
