India is about to miss the target of vaccination in the month of July. By the end of current monthThe central government was supposed to inoculate over a half billion COVID-19 vaccine doses. This is due to the India's domestic vaccine maker Bharat Biotech struggles to boost output of its Covid-19 vaccine 'Covaxin'. The government data revealed on Monday.

The government of india has undertaken the world's largest vaccination drive, and so far has distributed around 430 million doses, more than any country except china can administer in the world. Though the vaccination drive seems huge but when compared to population size it is less than many countries.

In May, the central government said it would make 516 million doses available by the end of July. The government wants to vaccinate all its estimated 944 million adults by December. However, to meet the July-end target authorities have to triple their average daily vaccinations to 14 million doses, which will not be possible, according to the latest supply projections for Covaxin vaccine of Bharat Biotech.

Last week, Union health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed parliament that the government has been depending on Covaxin deliveries of 60 million to 70 million doses from July or august monthly. But the hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech will only be able to supply 25 million doses till this month end and 35 million in august because a new production facility in the Bengaluru takes time to come online
