At a restaurant in the Kasaragod district of Kerala, 58 people fell ill after eating shawarma on Sunday. A 16-year-old girl has also lost her life due to this. A senior health official of the district said that Shigella bacteria is believed to be the reason behind the incident of suspected food poisoning. At present, it is being investigated.


Medical college examination

The senior health officer of the area said that the presence of Shigella has been detected. He said that the information about this virus has been received after examining the blood and stool samples of food poisoning victims at the kozhikode Medical college Hospital. At present, another investigation is being done.


The official said that out of all the infected people, samples of 5 patients were sent to kozhikode Medical college for examination. Infection of Shigella bacteria has been confirmed in the report of 3 of the infected. He said that on the basis of this result, it is being considered as an outbreak of bacteria. The administration is taking all necessary steps to control and prevent the spread of bacteria.

An awareness campaign is being conducted

Health officials said that the bacteria mainly spread through contaminated food and water. Cleanliness is an important factor to overcome this. An awareness campaign is also being run on this in restaurants and Dhabas.
