Marakkar - The lion of the arabian sea is a film that can be classified as an Epic Period war Drama. The movie actually takes place in the sixteenth century. The Samoothiri's (Zamorin) navy was commanded by Kunjali Marakkar IV. In this movie, mohanlal plays Kunjali Marakkar IV. The director faced two big obstacles: the first is that there is insufficient material on this historical figure.

Many of the materials accessible were ambiguous or inconsistent. As a result, the filmmaker's imagination is visible in several sequences. The filmmaker has done an excellent job of maximizing the return on the crores invested in the picture while maintaining the film's aesthetic merit. Also, we need to give due credit to the art director for putting some valiant efforts to recreate the sets.

The plot of the film is very similar to the plot of the film 'Urumi.' Both films depict local independence warriors facing off against alien Portuguese. However, both films succeed on two levels. If Urumi was a painting with an emotional backdrop, 'Marakkar' is a miracle reimagined on a wider canvas. We just confess and compare this as we can feel the same while watching the movie on the big screen.
