Hayden Panettiere will reprise her role as Kirby in Scream 6 in 2023, after missing the fifth film this year. With the release of Scream, a new film based on the next generation of Ghostface victims, Wes Craven's iconic slasher franchise made a significant resurgence earlier this year. Scream 6 has been greenlit by Paramount and Spyglass media to continue the series after making an amazing $138.8 million globally. Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, who directed the fifth film, will return for Scream 6, which will be released in march 2023.

Panettiere joined the franchise as cool girl Kirby Reed in 2011's Scream 4. Despite being brutally attacked by one of the film's Ghostface killers, Kirby is subsequently discovered to have survived. As a result, many fans speculated that she might return in the 2022 Scream, a theory that was backed up by tremendous public support. She, along with franchise veterans Neve Campbell, did not return.

With Scream 6, that appears to be changing. Panettiere has signed a deal to play Kirby in the next sequel, according to Paramount and Spyglass. At the present, there are little details about her return, but with filming due to begin this summer, that could change shortly. Panettiere joins a cast that is mostly made up of Scream 5 alumni. The plot of Scream 6 is being kept under wraps, but it is said that it follows four survivors of the last Woodsboro killings as they leave town and begin a new chapter.
