Many people thought ace director Mysskin was exaggerating when he said "Kadaisi Vivasayi" was the best film made in the last 100 years of tamil cinema, but after seeing it, they realised the truth of his statement and the gravitas of the film, and why it's one of the most important films ever made in indian cinema. Don't miss this if you haven't seen yet and it's available on SLIV OTT platform.

With its grounded simplicity and stirring emotions, Kadaisi Vivasayi is an immediate classic material. It tells the story of an age-old farmer named Mayandi (Nallandi), who still owns a plot of farming land while the rest of the hamlet has sold theirs. When the villagers decide to perform a ritual, they need a bunch of paddy from their village soil as an offering to god, and Mallandi is told to start farming for the same reason, which he accepts. What follows is a series of problems that Mayandi encounters from the system, including whether or not he can harvest the crops.

The best element of the film is director Mankinadan's ability to capture the soil feel of the hamlet with utmost realism, superb realism in the representation of diverse characterizations, and drama. Almost every character in the film is believable and shares some empathy with you, but the main character Maayandi is bound to make you relate to your roots; it's so pure and warm that you'll walk away with a content smile, having witnessed a character who makes your existence feel good; you'll be experiencing those kinds of strong emotions while watching this Old soul's journey unfold in the film.
