This was the first film in South cinema, which earned more than Rs 150 crore.

The film was released in tamil in cinemas worldwide on 15 june 2007. The film was also dubbed in hindi and was released on 8 january 2010. The film performed very well at the worldwide box office. Seeing the craze of this film among the fans, it was converted into 3D. It is the first 3D indian film to be launched with the new Dolby Atmos platform.
The trailer of the film in 3D format was launched in 2012, while the 3D version of the film was released on 12 december 2012. The duration of the 3D version of the film is less than that of the original film.
The film depicts the story of Shivaji, a software systems architect, who returns to his homeland of india after completing his work in America. In return, he wants to do social service with the facility of free treatment and education. However, a political lead precipitates a rift in his planning. After seeing the corruption, shivaji is seen fighting the system in his own way.
