The main author of doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness claims that the Wasp was supposed to have a terrible death in the original script. sam Raimi, director of the Spider-Man trilogy and a revered master of horror, directed the second instalment of the doctor Strange series, which hit theatres on May 6. With nearly $944 million in global box office receipts, Multiverse of Madness is currently the highest-grossing movie of 2022.

Multiverse of Madness, starring Elizabeth Olson as the Scarlet Witch and Benedict Cumberbatch as doctor Strange, had many MCU cameos as Strange assisted America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez) in travelling through the multiverse. The Illuminati are a group of superheroes who successfully fought Thanos in their own reality after Strange and Chavez travel to a universe called Earth-838. Charles Xavier/Professor X, Captain Carter, Karl Mordo, Black Bolt, Maria Rambeau/Captain Marvel, and Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic are all members of the Illuminati, and Scarlet Witch brutally murders them all in an effort to steal Chavez's abilities.

Head writer Michael Waldron claims that the Wasp was initially a member of the Illuminati in the audio commentary for Multiverse of Madness (via The Direct). The Wasp, who was supposed to have shrunk down, was instead "smushed" between Wanda's hands like a bug, along with the other Illuminati, by Wanda. After the Illuminati sequences were written into the script, producer Ritchie Palmer said there was some apprehension that Marvel would perceive the scene to be too violent or graphic. Multiverse of Madness still contained the Illuminati's demise, but the Wasp was left out.
