In Kids vs. aliens, Gary (Dominic Mariche) and his friends create an enormously successful home movie. Of course, the kids are using weapons to battle dinosaurs, including swords, with Gary's sister sam (Phoebe Rex) taking a special liking to the latter. The performance goes awry when sam begins to feel uncomfortable interacting with children, some bullies choose to target Gary and his pals, Gary is hurt, and an inappropriate house party occurs. Additionally, the kind of aliens that kids always imagined show up at the gathering. They charge in, create a commotion, and abduct a few partygoers, including Gary and his group. Now sam must take action. Will she act independently like Valora, her favourite wrestler, or will she wait for an adult to take care of the problem?

The makeup and visual effects teams had to collaborate to create believable terrifying creatures that are also comically appropriate to what kids envision aliens to look like because in this kids vs. aliens story, the aliens interact closely with the characters. These aliens are actually just individuals wearing prosthetics and outfits, but clever camera moves and lighting hide any obvious hints to that fact, and that inventiveness is what makes little independent movies like this one endure. The sense of terror and excitement is increased by the tangible nature of these monsters, which is miles better than a CGI-rendered creation. What happens when the aliens catch their target is even more admirable, and this is where this entertaining, family-friendly B-movie pushes the edge because, well, this gets quite brutal.

Some people will roll their eyes at the profanity, while others will find it enough to turn them off. It's unfortunate that the F-word would prevent youngsters from seeing a fun movie that promotes creativity and storytelling, especially in this day and age when parents are more cautious about what their children ingest. Although there are numerous entertaining lessons to be learned from this movie, the excessive use of filthy language and the lack of significant writing do little to enhance what should be a riotous time.

Kids vs. aliens is a lot of fun overall. Although the plot is straightforward, the visual execution is superb. There is no greater audience for a thrilling tale about battling to survive an extraterrestrial invasion than children, so bringing the B-movie horror genre to them is a great concept. The profanity and the weak script are the only things that prevent Kids vs. aliens from being successful in the long run, but for something that feels purposefully campy, stupid, and immature, Kids vs. aliens is hardly worth becoming severely offended over. Despite several areas where it could have been improved, Kids vs. aliens is still a lot of fun.
