Filmmakers have over the years witnessed absurd censorship complaints, such as james bond should not be seen kissing his wife for longer than a predetermined amount of seconds! About indian censoring practises, a lot has been said and written. Free india persisted with them for essentially the same purpose that they were introduced by the british colonial authorities to monitor cinema content against the Raj.

It is astonishing how laxly the authorities have applied the same or similar regulations to OTT content. Additionally, OTT platforms have been available in india for six years. The only entertainment options available during the Covid-19 lockdown were movies, which were not open during that time. They have only increased their audience over the previous two years.

Even social media is monitored in the nation, and both the state and the federal governments filter it. Why did no one consider taking action against OTT content? Previously, the government prohibited a movie with a "A" certificate from airing on Doordarshan (DD). In order for his movie to be eligible for DD, the producer had to re-censor it and delete the scenes that had given it the "A" certificate. The few lakhs that DD paid for a movie back then meant more to a producer than the millions that pay-per-view services and satellite tv networks do today.
