The ap government has introduced a resolution in the Legislative assembly withdrawing a resolution introduced by the andhra pradesh government in january 2020 calling for the abolition of the andhra pradesh Legislative Council.

To this end, the minister of Legislative Affairs buggana rajendranath reddy introduced the resolution in the house and the house passed it. 


Minister Bugna said the then government had decided to dissolve the council as it was blocking laws and bills brought by the government and creating unnecessary ambiguity.


However, the minister said it was a good idea to continue with the council as it was attended by representatives from different sections of the society and was represented by new people from time to time. 


Minister buggana said the council was withdrawing its decision to dissolve the council in the hope that the new members would support the decisions of the legislature in the future. The house, which passed the resolution, adjourned till tomorrow. 

What did jagan say in the past?

On january 23, 2020, chief minister Jaganmohan reddy introduced a resolution to dissolve the council. A total of 132 ycp MLAs and one janasena MLA voted in favour of the bill. 


The opposition Telugudesam party did not attend the meeting. At the time of the introduction of the bill, then chief minister YS Jaganmohan reddy had said that the council was there to block the bill temporarily from a political point of view, adding that there was no prospect of delay, obstruction of public interest and delay. 


The chief minister told the house that the state government was spending Rs 60 crore annually for the council and not a single rupee would be spent on it. He said the council was dissolved for one person during the ntr regime.
