The tamil Nadu government has announced that it will provide gift items through ration shops ahead of the pongal festival.

Ingredients for pongal include paste, jaggery, cashews, grapes, cardamom, alfalfa, ghee, turmeric powder, chilli powder, coriander powder, mustard, cumin, pepper, tamarind, lentils, semolina, wheat flour, etc. bag containing groceries is to be provided.

The government of tamil Nadu has released an allocation of Rs. Rs 71 crore for the distribution of sugarcane along with the pongal gift package.


With just 45 days to go before the pongal festival, 2 crores 15 lakh 48 thousand 060 families are expected to be benefited from these items.


When the DMK came to power, a corona relief fund of Rs. 4,000 per ration card and a package of 14 groceries were provided. It was immediately reported that various irregularities had taken place in the tender at that time.


It is said that the entire tender was given to one company it was the reason behind the delay and chaos. And then urgently distributed to three other companies. Also, every GST tax was levied on each of the groceries. On the contrary, Some items have no tax.


For example, wheat flour, peanuts, semolina, salt, tamarind and lentils are GST free. Meanwhile, 5 per cent GST will be levied on sugar, mustard, cumin, turmeric powder and chilli powder. Of these, a maximum of 18 per cent GST is levied on bath soaps and laundry detergents.


They claim that the government has lost 88 crore rupees due to this.


"It's true that last time DMK faced a particular problem. The package was distributed to the people within a month of the DMK coming to power. 


Corona proliferation was also at its peak. The work was carried out as a matter of urgency as relief aid was immediately available to the people. So some mistakes happened. 


Two months ago, the chief minister issued a decree expediting the process. So the tender will be given to the right person and we will explore and implement how to procure quality goods at a lower price if we make a purchase, ”said a famous politician.
