Amidst the ongoing economic crisis in sri lanka, prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that the assistance being given by india is not a 'charitable donation'. Wickremesingh said that while addressing the parliament of sri lanka, he said that we should also have a plan to return the money received from India. He said that sri lanka is currently facing a serious economic crisis.


Ranil Wickremesinghe said in parliament, 'We have taken a loan of US $ 4 billion under the indian Line of Credit. We have requested our indian counterparts for more loan help but india too will not be able to support us like this continuously. Even their help has its limits. These are not charitable donations.


The situation in sri lanka is getting worse-

He briefed the parliament about the measures taken by the government so far to counter the economic crisis. The Sri Lankan prime minister said that a team of high-ranking officials of the reserve bank of india (RBI) is scheduled to reach Colombo on thursday to assess the local economic conditions. This is the most serious issue before us today. Wickremesinghe said Sri Lanka's only hope now is from the international Monetary Fund (IMF).
