The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) under the Ministry of Finance has recently issued a directive to airlines. In this order, it has been announced that full details of passengers going abroad should be reported to the government 24 hours before the departure of the flight and this will be a measure to prevent the escape of economic criminals and other criminals.Each airline company has been requested to provide the passenger's name, billing payment information, ticket issue date, ticket booking date, travel PNR number, passenger's email, and mobile number to the government 24 hours before the departure of the flight. Although the reasons for requesting such information are not clearly stated, the move is said to be to prevent bank defaulters from fleeing the country to escape prosecution. It is said that in the last 5 years, 38 economic criminals including famous businessman Vijay Mallya, Nirav Modi, and Mehul Choksi have escaped from the country and this step is being taken so that they do not escape in the future.Vijay Mallya fled to london after taking a loan of Rs.9,000 crore from various banks including SBI. Similarly, Mehul Choksi fled to Antigua after taking a loan of more than Rs.13 crore from punjab National Bank. To prevent economic criminals from escaping, the government has said that full details of foreign passengers must be submitted to the government 24 hours in advance or else a fine of Rs.25,000 to Rs.50,000 will be imposed on the airlines.
