When YSR passed away in 2009, all eyes were on Jagan and as expected he risked his association with congress to have a legacy of his own and has definitely succeed in emerging as a threat to all other parties in the state and at one point of time it was thought he would sweep more than 30 Lok Sabha Seats out a total of 42.
Now no survey is giving Jagan more than 13-15 seats. Jagan was expected to even surpass Telangana sentiment but even this hasn’t happened. Sources say that had Jagan chosen a fresh team he would have made a bombarding impact by now. In 1982 when NTR launched TDP more than 80 percent of leaders were fresh and youngsters and he only choose those jumping from Congress carefully.
But in a hurry and in a challenge to defeat his rivals, Jagan relied more on strong leaders from Congress and TDP and in no time his party was looking like a mini –TDP or mini-Congress and he was also ridiculed by some opposition leaders that his party looked like YSR TDP than YSR Congress. It has to be remembered that the same batch of leaders who were of no big use to Naidu in 2004 or 2009 to get power are now with Jagan and if he feels that his personal charisma can make for the loss he is mistaken. By not opening doors for educated, middle class and the massive youngster’s population in AP, Jagan may have lost a golden opportunity!
