Cars are no longer a luxury but a necessity in today’s life, but the excessive price of petrol and diesel and the high road tax have made cars out of reach for most two wheeler drivers. Then again the banking sector is becoming rigid about car loans which makes things worse. There is also the mandate to introduce safety features like air bags and ABS on cars which add to the cost of the cars.

According to maruti chairman RC Bhargava the entry level cars have become unaffordable for the common man. Right now the car sales have hit an all time low and he said that the temporary reduction in GST will not make much of a difference in the car market. Of course other bigwigs in the automobile industry are urging the government to bring GST on cars down from 28% to 18% but according to Bhargava it will not make much of a difference.

The average person who drives a two wheeler wants to upgrade to a car but is unable to do so because of financial constraints. In fact Bhargava in a press conference stated that suto sales have dropped by 50%.
