Reportedly senior india NATIONAL CONGRESS' target='_blank' title='congress-Latest Updates, Photos, Videos are a click away, CLICK NOW'>congress leader P chidambaram on monday attacked the narendra Modi-led government for failing to take enough steps to revive India's ailing economy. When speaking in rajya sabha, the former finance minister said the economy was being attended by "very incompetent doctors" who are not doing enough to prevent further damage.

Meanwhile chidambaram mentioned that the economy was not in ICU yet, he criticised the handling of it by the government. He said, "The economy is not in ICU, but it is waiting to be pushed into the ICU. It is being kept outside and looked after by incompetent doctors." Furthermore citing the departure of ex-RBI governor raghuram Rajan and former chief economic advisor Arvind Subramanian, chidambaram said that "every competent doctor has left the country". He said "Even Arvind Panagariya could not stay longer".

Moreover the former finance minister's jibe comes days after Finance minister nirmala sitharaman presented the government's Union Budget 2020-21. Apparently chidambaram has been critical of the government's actions to revive the economy at a time when rising employment and falling consumption have emerged as key bottlenecks preventing growth. He said, "Every budget has a purpose. It is defined by the context and the circumstances in which the nation finds itself. Today, there is a dire need to arrest six-quarter decline and revive growth and look at the other things later."
