According to sources the oldest coronavirus patient, an 86 year old woman weighing merely 22 kgs, walked out victoriously from the hospital after she tested negative for the novel virus on Tuesday. She was in the SUM Covid Hospital for 14 days during which she was undergoing treatment for coronavirus. The woman, a resident of Jajpur district, was admitted to the SUM Covid Hospital in bhubaneswar after getting infected with Covid-19. Beating all odds, she fought the virus. Her battle continued for 12 days before she could test negative and defeat the novel virus.

 

"She recovered completely and was discharged from the hospital on tuesday," Dr Pusparaj Samantsinghar, Medical Superintendent, SUM Covid Hospital, informed. The elderly woman is a resident of Katikata panchayat in Jajpur district. Katikata was declared a containment zone after some villagers had tested positive. The SUM Covid Hospital, set up in collaboration with the state government and supported by the public sector mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL), has a total of 525 beds, including 25 of those in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), is the largest Covid-19 Hospital in the state.

 

"At a time when people over 60 years of age are believed to be very vulnerable to the virus, the confidence of our doctors, nurses, and other paramedic staff soared following the recovery of the octogenarian patient. We are elated have been able to serve in this critical time," Dr Pusparaj Samantsinghar said.Meanwhile, 14 other Covid-19 patients of Jajpur district, including two three-year-old children, were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday. The discharged patients also included a 60-year-old man, who was diagnosed with diabetes in the hospital itself. In fact, the treatment helped his pre-prandial blood sugar level to steeply reduce from 400 to 100.
