Ehsan Jaffrey was among the 68 people killed in the Gulberg Society in ahmedabad on february 28, 2002. 59 people were killed on the day of the burning of the S-6 coach of the Sabarmati Express at Godhra on the day of the riots in Gujarat. The supreme court has adjourned for two weeks the hearing on a petition filed by Zakia Jaffrey, wife of the late mp Ehsan Jaffrey, challenging the (SIT) clean chit. On march 16, the supreme court posted the matter for hearing on tuesday, saying it would no longer make any request for an adjournment resolution.

Tribunal headed by Justice A.M. Khanwilker rescheduled the trial for two weeks. The case has been adjourned several times in recent months. At one point in the previous hearing, Justice Kahnwilker orally commented, “We cannot adjourn this. We need to hear one day” On february 8, 2012, the SIT filed a closure report, giving clean chit to modi and 63 other government officials, including senior government officials, saying there was" no prosecution evidence "against them.

Zakia Jaffrey filed a petition in the supreme court in 2018 challenging the october 5, 2017 orders of the gujarat high court rejecting her petition against the SIT decision. After the SIT gave a clean chit in its closure report before the trial judge, the petitioner filed a protest, which was dismissed by the magistrate without considering "significant qualifications".

The high court also said that the petitioner, who was independent from the Gulberg case registered at the Meghannagar police station, had "failed to greet" the complaint. The high court said in its october 2017 order that the SIT investigation would be overseen by the supreme Court. However, this allowed the demand for further investigation of Zakia Jaffrey's petition.
