polavaram project is an under construction multi-purpose irrigation National project on the godavari river in the west godavari district and east godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. The project has been accorded national project status by the Union government of india and will be the last to be accorded the status. It gives major boost to tourism sector in Godavari Districts.
It is not a joke to build projects on water. It was said that in polavaram the project was handled by very efficient engineers but the still the damage of sand flooding is happening. Recently, near polavaram where the main dam has to be constructed, due to Godavari flood effect near lankas, the centre of the river was cut out of the sand majorly. The stand was flooded nearly 400 meters. Nearly 20 lakhs cubic meters of sand and mud was flooded. Due to this, the central water ministry of dam experts are unable to decide about the dam. Usually the projects are built to take care of the sand but here the major problem is flooding of the sand and mud even before the construction of the dam. May be the problem lies in expertise reporting which has to be resolved as soon as possible.
