M K stalin, the leader of the DMK, was sworn in as the chief minister of tamil Nadu on friday at raj Bhawan in Chennai. governor banwarilal purohit administered the oath to him. Along with stalin, 33 other members of his party took the oath of office. Both Covid procedures were followed during the oath-taking ceremony. The ceremony was attended by less than 300 people. Many retired ministers have been re-instated in Stalin's government, with some of them receiving new portfolios this time.

Banwarilal Purohit accepted Stalin's suggestions for MLAs to be named ministers and their portfolios on Thursday. Udhayanidhi, Stalin's uncle, is not included among the ministers. The DMK had contested the elections with allies and won an outright majority. DMK won 133 seats on its own in the 234-member assembly and fought the polls in alliance with some other parties including Congress. Since C N Annadurai, the party's founder, was first elected as chief minister in 1967, the DMK has had six chief ministers. Following that, M karunanidhi, Stalin's father, held the role.
