Banwarilal Purohit accepted Stalin's suggestions for MLAs to be named ministers and their portfolios on Thursday. Udhayanidhi, Stalin's uncle, is not included among the ministers. The DMK had contested the elections with allies and won an outright majority. DMK won 133 seats on its own in the 234-member assembly and fought the polls in alliance with some other parties including Congress. Since C N Annadurai, the party's founder, was first elected as chief minister in 1967, the DMK has had six chief ministers. Following that, M karunanidhi, Stalin's father, held the role.
In this regard, PM narendra modi expressed his regards on twitter "Congratulations to Thiru @mkstalin on being sworn-in as tamil Nadu Chief Minister." he tweeted.
