Central Vista Redevelopment Project refers to the ongoing redevelopment to revamp the Central Vista, India's central administrative area located near Raisina Hill, New Delhi. The area houses India's government and parliamentary offices and has been described as the "power corridor" of the country.
The supreme court on friday permitted the petitioners challenging the construction activities of the Central Vista project amid the COVID19 second wave to make a request before the delhi high court for an early listing of the case. "We hope and trust that the high court shall consider the request of early hearing and pass an order", a bench comprising Justices Vineet saran and Dinesh Maheshwari said in the order.
The petitioners Anya Malhotra and Sohail Hashmi had earlier approached the delhi High Court. However, the high court had adjourned the matter to May 17, without issuing notice. Aggrieved by the High Court's adjournment, the petitioners approached the supreme Court. Senior Advocate siddharth Luthra, appearing for the petitioners, said that the grievance was with respect to the fact that the High Court's adjournment was long considering the crisis caused by the COVID19 pandemic. Regarding this, a sarcastical tweet is going viral.
