prime minister narendra modi addressed a gathering in chennai today after launching chennai Metro extension and other key projects in the state. In his speech, he stated that chennai is full of energy and enthusiasm. He added that it is a city of knowledge and creativity, and from here, india begins key infrastructure projects which are symbols of innovation and indigenous development. He appreciated the farmers of tamil Nadu for record food grain production and good use of water resources.

tamil Nadu’s finance minister Dr Palanivel Thiagarajan argues that the over centralisation of power in delhi, from demonetization to the current chaos over handling the pandemic, is one key reason why the Covid-19 pandemic is threatening to go out of control. He went highly critical on the Union Government’s handling of the pandemic. In an interview, he has said that ‘how could an officer sitting in delhi know the situation and order on opening of a barber shop in a village in Madurai?’ He has said that decentralisation is the only way out of the pandemic and the Union government has no clue for it. On a question about the PM’s tv address he said ‘Honestly I don’t watch them as I have much more to do’ and questioned how will a Tamilion get the message if the speech is in hindi and there is not even a translator to interpret it.
