According to sources, the andhra pradesh government will hold a one-day Budget session in the assembly on May 20. The government is yet to make a formal announcement on the subject. The session is yet to be announced to the business Advisory Committee. The session was originally scheduled to take place in march by the government. It had to be postponed for a variety of reasons, including local body voting, the tirupati bye-poll, and the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. In march of this year, the government issued an ordinance for the second time without holding a Budget conference.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council and former Finance minister yanamala ramakrishnudu had earlier criticised the government's decision to promulgate an ordinance and ignore a Budget session, saying, "This is nothing but the government's bankruptcy." It just serves to highlight the jagan mohan reddy government's utter disrespect for the people, the legislature, and the opposition parties. The jagan regime has developed an evil practice of getting the budget passed by an ordinance.”

This ordinance issued by the government-approved Rs 70,983 crore in spending for a few months in the fiscal year 2021-22. The ordinance will expire in june, and the government is calling for a full Budget session to allow the finance ministry to release budgets to different departments. Meanwhile, the state has been under a partial lockout since May 5 to combat the spread of COVIid-19.
