Manappuram is a village of the Savara tribe in andhra pradesh, with a population of 1.5-lakh people. Villagers have barricaded the village to prevent outsiders from entering.

Suhasini is in-charge of managing the health parameters of 50-people in her 350-person village.She daily contacts with workers at the 13.2km away PHC Donubhai. “When I detect a person with fever, I ask them to isolate themselves first, then notify the health workers, who make arrangements for testing at PHC.Since our village is remote,PHC workers can't visit daily. “At the moment, only one person in the entire village has fever symptoms,” she adds. There have been no reports of COVID-19 cases in the village.

All cinema halls,residential-schools, gurukulas, and guest-houses have been converted into isolation centres. andhra pradesh has around five crore tribal people living across 13-districts.The state hopes to raise awareness about the disease and enrol tribal communities for vaccination drives.

The state on monday reported 1,89,36- active COVID-19 cases. Of  16,000-hamlets in ap, about-2,500 of them are from difficult  terrains. Several of these hamlets are in areas with Maoist activity, officials say. The ITDA has 29-PHCs in the ITDA region, and the officer says, village volunteer system  helped them detect cases sooner and help contain the spread.

About 6-lakh tribal communities reside across  Paderu ITDA of visakhapatnam district which reported 19,120-active cases on Monday. The second COVID-19 wave has reached the tribal belt but has not resulted in deaths.
