A.K. Saseendran, Kerala's Forest minister, looked to have put the Left Democratic Front (LDF) administration in a good position ahead of the second session of the 15th kerala Assembly, which begins on Thursday. On mainstream media, a mobile phone conversation tape reportedly depicting the minister attempting to hide a party aide from scrutiny in a sexual harassment issue went viral. The incident has bolstered the opposition's claim that the LDF's recent anti-dowry, anti-gender inequality, and the anti-misogyny campaign was a ruse.

Mr. Saseendran used the power of his office to persuade a nationalist congress party (NCP) worker to drop a sexual harassment charge his daughter had made against a State-level party leader, according to leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan. Mr. Saseendran had spoken to her dad in a threatening tone, according to the victim. The minister appeared to be well-versed on the case filed at the Kundara police station in Kollam. Mr. Satheesan claimed that the minister had abused his position by providing government protection to a sex offender and that the minister had pushed the ncp worker to resolve the issue peacefully. It was ethically unacceptable for the minister to remain in the Cabinet. Mr. Saseendran had to quit immediately because of political propriety.

The ncp State Leadership has suggested that the incident would be investigated. In 2017, Mr. Saseendran was chastised by the public for reportedly engaging in a lewd telephone chat with a lady posing as a reporter for a fledgling television station. The discussion was eventually broadcast on the channel, sparking a political storm that pushed him out of government.
