The Monsoon Session of the parliament has functioned only 18 hours out of the total scheduled 107 hours, which resulted in a loss accounting more than Rs 133 crore of Public money, according to the government sources. The parliament session functioning was continuously hindered by the intense protests from the opposition parties on the alleged Pegasus snooping and phone hacking issue prominently.

Sources on saturday said so far 89 hours were wasted in the ongoing session. The Monsoon session started on July 19 and will conclude on august 13.

Going into the official details, the Upper house Rajya Sabha has functioned for only 21 per cent of its total scheduled time, while the lok sabha has managed to function less than 13 per cent of the total scheduled time.

"Rajya Sabha has been allowed to function only for 11 hours out of the possible 53 hours, the lok sabha was only been allowed to function about 7 hours out of the possible 54 hours. So far the parliament has only functioned 18 hours out of the possible 107 hours which makes 16.8 per cent ," the sources said.


The disruptions caused in the proceedings of the parliament have led to a loss of over Rs 133 crore to the nation, they said.

Opposition parties in both the upper houses have been demanding discussion on Pegasus snooping, farmers' protest and other issues, which led to the disruptions in the proceedings and the houses were adjourned abruptly .
